To Understand the word KAFIR

Kafir (Arabic: كافر‎‎ kāfir; plural كفّارkuffār; feminine كافرة kāfirah) is an Arabic term (from the root K-F-R “to cover”) meaning “unbeliever”, or “disbeliever”. [1] [2] The term[1] alludes to a person who rejects or disbelieves in God and the teachings of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad,[3] and denies the dominion and authority of God;[4] or otherwise does not heed the beliefs and prescriptions held by the religion of Islam. Unbelief is called kufr. Kafir is sometimes used interchangeably with mushrik (مشرك, those who commit polytheism), another type of religious wrongdoer mentioned frequently in the Quran and Islamic works.[5] The practice of declaring another self-professed Muslim a kafir is known as takfir.[6]

Etymology

The word kāfir is the active participle of the root K-F-R. As a pre-Islamic term it described farmers burying seeds in the ground. One of its applications in the Quran is also the same meaning as farmer.[7] Since farmers cover the seeds with soil while planting, the word kāfir implies a person who hides or covers. Ideologically, it implies a person who hides or covers the truth. Poets personify the darkness of night as kâfir, perhaps as a survival of pre-Islamic religious or mythological usage.[8] The noun for disbelief,[9] “blasphemy”,[10] “impiety”[11] rather than the person who disbelieves, is kufr.

The Hebrew words “kipper” and “kofer” share the same root as “kafir” כִּפֵּר, or K-F-R. “Kipper” has many meanings including, to “deny”, “atone for”, “cover”, “purge”, “represent”, or “transfer”. The last two meanings involve “kofer” that mean “ransom”. “Kipper” and “kofer” are mostly likely used together in the Jewish faith to indicate God’s transfer of guilt from innocent parties using guilty parties as “ransom”.[12]

Answering Claims of Paul Ross No.11 ” Thou shall Terrorize non-Muslims. Koran 8:12, 8:60″

A Non Muslim reader sent me a response regarding “REFUTING CLAIM SATAN INSPIRED PROPHET IN CAVE (not GABRIEL).” His name is Paul Ross.

His TITLE: The 20 Commandments of Muhammad, the founder of Islam.

There are 20 claims that he believes inspired by satan. All I can say that he doesn’t understand anything about Islam especially Al-Qur’an. Let’s discuss it one by one.

I SKIPPED CLAIM NO 2 (2. Thou shall have Sex Slaves and Work Slaves. Koran 4:3, 4:24, 5:89,33:50, 58:3, 70:30) since this kind of discussion demanding long explanation. I will discuss this for the last Insha Allah.

11. Thou shall Terrorize non-Muslims. Koran 8:12, 8:60

This is another verse that is commonly quoted out of context, both historical context and the context of the verse itself in the Qur’an. Let us first examine the full verse:

Surah 8:12

SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
[Remember] when your Lord inspired to the angels, “I am with you, so strengthen those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip.”

10. Thou shall Kill AND be Killed for Allah. Koran 9:5

Surah 9:5

SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

And if any one of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the words of Allah . Then deliver him to his place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know.

Having presented the verse in context, we can analyze it properly. Dr. Maher Hathout gives an explanation on the historical context of the verse:

ANOTHER MISQUOTE FROM MR PAUL.

Surah 8:13

SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger – indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.

That is the context of the verse in the Qur’an. The historical context is that this verse was revealed at the Battle of Badr, a battle in which the pagans of Makkah traveled over 200 miles to destroy the Muslims of Madinah. The Pagans of Makkah had an army of about 1000 while the Muslims were only 300 followers. The Prophet Muhammad ((peace be upon him)) and his followers had suffered severe persecutions and torture for 13 years in the city of Makkah. Having fled from Makkah to the safety of Madinah, they found that they were once again threatened. Abul ‘Ala Maududi describes the situation that led to the Battle of Badr, beginning with the Muslim activity in Madinah:

Answering Claims of Paul Ross No8. “Thou shall Kill anyone who leaves Islam. Koran 2:217, 4:89”

8. Thou shall Kill anyone who leaves Islam. Koran 2:217, 4:89

Surah 2:217:

SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
They ask you about the sacred month – about fighting therein. Say, “Fighting therein is great [sin], but averting [people] from the way of Allah and disbelief in Him and [preventing access to] al-Masjid al-Haram and the expulsion of its people therefrom are greater [evil] in the sight of Allah . And fitnah is greater than killing.” And they will continue to fight you until they turn you back from your religion if they are able. And whoever of you reverts from his religion [to disbelief] and dies while he is a disbeliever – for those, their deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter, and those are the companions of the Fire, they will abide therein eternally.

Surah 2:218:

SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
Indeed, those who have believed and those who have emigrated and fought in the cause of Allah – those expect the mercy of Allah . And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

THIS VERSES IS ABOUT WAR IN SACRED MONTH. NOTHING ABOUT KILL ANYONE WHO LEAVES ISLAM.
